This stay was a dream coming true to me. L’Assiette Champenoise is a place I always wanted to visit. First time I heard about it was during a trip to Champagne some years ago, when a champagne producer told me that this was the best and most exclusive hotel and restaurant in the region. I finally spent three nights in the property last month only to conclude that this statement is absolutely true. Enjoy the ride!
Champagne is one of the most beautiful regions in France. It is all about, of course, champagne, beautiful nature, castles, great restaurants and exclusive hotels. I have been to the region many times and I have written a complete article with everything that one must know to enjoy the best it has to offer. Read the full article about Champagne here.
Still, my experiences were not complete as I had never stayed at stunning L’Assiette Champenoise. I am so happy I finally did it and I am counting the days to go there again. We spent three nights in the property, dined twice in their impeccable restaurant and, last but not least, had the immense pleasure to meet the Lallement family.
There are 33 contemporary suites in an ultra elegant ambience, full of history and the unbeatable very personal touch of the Lallement family. I am talking about a fantastic encounter of luxury stay and extraordinary fine dining by one of the most acclaimed Chefs of the world – Arnaud Lallement.
As soon as the gate opened and we entered the property I was like OMG! Yeah! Of course, I had seen photos and I knew how it was looking but you know what? Reality is better than any already high expectation I had! The walls of the beautiful mansion hide a contemporary interior based on straight lines, trendy furnishings and design furniture.
Founded nearly 40 years ago by their parents, the Assiette Champenoise is run today by Arnaud Lallement in the kitchen, his wife Magali in the dining room and his sister, Maitre de Maison Mélanie Lallement, who are very keen to continue the family tradition of upscale hospitality.
Deeply rooted in the region, the property invites its guests to discover the best champagnes in the cosy bar or the highly acclaimed cuisine of the young Chef, who celebrates the quality of the products. Park, terrace and pool are a harmonious complement to this fine property.
The atmosphere is relaxed, elegant and exclusive. Expect all the staff to know your name and to memorize your preferences, expect sweet surprises in your room every night and expect members of the Lallement family asking how you like your stay.
We had the immense pleasure to meet Colette Lallement, who took her time to graciously tell us a little bit about her story. After the talk I was sure: there is a reason for success and it is PASSION and DEDICATION. This is what happens at L’Assiette Champenoise – They know what they are doing, they love it and they are masters of tradition and modernity.
I am mentioning modernity because despite the traditional look of the mansion, the interior is totally modern (recently totally refurbished) and displays furniture signed by some of the main names in design. Each day I would find a chair, a table or a vase to fall in love with. Haha! And I truly think that I never saw so many Tulip dining tables (by genius Saarinen) in one single place. What a paradise!
L’Assiette Champenoise is a proud member of prestigious Relais & Chateaux.
In Tinqueux. Very convenient to explore the beautiful region of Champagne, very close to Reims and ultra close to many of Champagne’s main points of interest. Some of the main Champagne Maisons are just around the corner.
We rented a car and explored on our own but the hotel can organize the most amazing visite de caves you could imagine – it is a great idea to have a driver so everybody can enjoy some champagne. As we know the region quite well, we wanted to relax in the beautiful grounds of the hotel and have fun in the extraordinary bar and restaurant. Therefore, we did not organize any tasting or visit this time. We only drove around with no fix itinerary and enjoyed the beauty.
ROOMS AND SUITES
One of those cases that every room is wow. Haha! We stayed in a Terrace Suite which is a show on its own! I still remember the huge painting that totally caught my attention as soon as I arrived. And it was only for us, right behind our bed.
The Terrace Suite is huge. We had 80 square meters, a king bed
that was so good that it was hard to leave it every morning, a large living room with sofa and desk, walk in closet, terrace with garden view, bathroom with a view towards the terrace, jacuzzi and walk-in shower and Relais & Chateaux amenities.
Our reception could not be better. Perfect and with plenty of welcoming details. We had a long flight and were both very tired – nothing could be better than being received with a welcoming hand written letter, yummy sweets from the hotel kitchen and one of my favourite champaigns ever. As you can imagine, we did not leave the room anymore and stayed until quite late on our terrace enjoying the good weather and the lovely fact that we were in one of our favourite places. Those moments…
Well, after all I wrote you know which is the suite that I recommend. 🙂
Divine! A pure delight! Heated indoor pool with a full view towards the beautiful gardens and sculptures of L’Assiette Champenoise.
We used the pool every day of our stay, and I have to say that only a few things could be more relaxing than this. We also got some tan in the comfy lounges of the garden while sipping some champagne and yup, remembering this is making me depressed as I look outside and realize I am not in Champagne. Hahahaha!
The ambience is quite relaxed and privacy is taken serious. We had some amazing mornings and afternoons just listening to the birds and enjoying peace.
EAT & DRINK
– L’Assiette Champenoise
This is nothing less than the best in Champagne. An experience per se and the only 3 Michelin stars restaurant in the region. As if it wasn’t enough, add to the list 19,5/20 points Gault Millau, 5 “toques” by Gault et Millau and numerous other Chef awards.
Each dish has a story for young, talented Chef Arnaud Lallement and he started writing his successful path at a very young age, when he joined his father, Jean-Pierre Lallement, in the kitchen.
What we saw and tasted at L’Assiette Champenoise was beyond any explanation. It was ART! Dishes were innovative, tasty, unique and beautiful!!! We were very excited to try the menu personally recommended by the Chef and amazed to experience the fantastic night we had.
It started with an aperitif in the garden and went on with the Emotion Menu, which consists of creations and classics of the house served with Champagne Grandes Cuvées and lesser known but very special champagnes. There are other choices of menus and also à la carte options. Nevertheless, I totally recommend trying the chef’s menu – I mean, once you made it to one of the best restaurants on earth, go ahead and try everything, as imagined by the Chef, right?!
Every dish of the menu was imagined by Arnaud Lallement to accompaign champagne. Is it a DREAM??? My favourite drink paired with the most amazing food, the best local ingredients and an interior that is to die for… Fabulous! One of those experiences which I will remember forever (and will repeat soon, of course).
I will write an article exclusively to share the details of the amazing nights we had at L’Assiette Champenoise. Stay tuned!
– The Bar
Do I have to mention the selection of champagne at the bar?! Trust me – it does not get better than this. Talking about bottles and bottles of Cristal, La Grande Dame and many others which are less well known but just as great!
The bar is open all day long, every day of the week, and is for sure one of the best places to sip champagne in Champagne. During winter time, choose to enjoy the cosy interior (think design!!!) and make sure to have a table outside if you have a beautiful day. You will not regret!
We felt that the bar was always busy. Hotel guests mixed with locals and visitors who just stopped by. Service is like it is in every corner of L’Assiette Champenoise: professional, relaxed, attentive and very, VERY sympathetic with a very personal touch.
– The Park
The place to be on a sunny day. Sit back and enjoy a bottle of good champaign with a view of the mansion, the pool or only the trees of the beautiful property. I swear that you will forget that you are in the middle of the city. Gorgeous and extremely relaxing!
WHEN TO GO
All year long! Champagne is a place which I enjoy at any time of the year. Nevertheless, I specially like it during spring and summer.
HOW TO GET THERE
– From Paris Airport: 30 min by train and 1H30 by car.
– From Strasbourg: 1H30 by train and 3H by car.
– From Lille: 1H35 by train and 1H50 by car.
The hotel organizes helicopter or limousines rides.
One of those depressing nights. How can I sleep well when all I want is to go back to this place? Haha! It was amazing and I totally hope that you followed the journey at @marineira on Instagram. I added our dinner to Insta-highlights in case you missed it and you can follow @lallement_arnaud on Instagram here to keep an eye on his beautiful work.
Thank you, dear Lallement family, YOU REALLY ROCK and it was an honour to meet you!
